In the Crucifixion, the high the cross with Christ, dominates the whole scene, and stands solitary against the sky. The Titulus Crucis, with the inscriptions, Greek and Latin, oriented from right to left, can be traced back to the discovery in the basilica of the Holy Cross of Jerusalem to Rome, which took place in 1492, the fragment of a lath wood believed to be the authentic Titulus Crucis, where the letters of the same inscriptions were shown inverted. In the lower half of the picture, the drama is emphasized by the fainting of the virgin, assisted by the holy women, from the composure of st. John, who turns praying, just like the Magdalene, look to Jesus, and by the astonishment expressed by the two soldiers on horses white, the sides of the cross.
